Koh Grill & Sushi Bar is a restaurant tucked neatly in a corner of Wisma Atria’s Food Republic. Being highly-raved, it is one of those places where there is always a crowd. Clearly, no line seems long enough to daunt a typical Singaporean, as the queue only gets longer despite the epic waiting time. Lucky for us, our sweet friend Denise happened to arrive the earliest and waited in line so that we could quickly feed our hungry souls. Hooray!
The menu is simple and covers all the usual Jap food suspects like sushi, sashimi, udon, makis and more. Despite the extensive menu, little focus is taken away from their star attraction, the legendary Shiok Maki – a sushi roll consisting of lightly roasted salmon, avocado, mayo, charcoal-grilled unagi that is finally topped with a generous serving of tobiko. For those of you not convinced to brave the wait for a seat and still in search of valid reason to return, you can look forward to the 2nd Gen Shiok Maki, which holds the promise of deep-fried prawns and MANGO sauce. Whoosh! With either Shiok Makis spotted on every other table (and their Instagram location geotag), I’m pretty confident that it would be game over for Koh Grill if they decided to do away with them.
The original 1st Gen Shiok Maki (S$16.80) was DOPE. Couldn’t possibly go wrong with a bunch of all my favorite ingredients amalgamated into a single dish. Didn’t get the 2nd Gen which seems to promise a greater contrast of textures. All the more I should return, right?
Yaki Udon (S$10) was served hot and fresh off the teppanyaki griddle. Could imagine it to be perfect in chilly weather.. Great for sharing.
