Omakase Burger @ The Grandstand

It had been years since I last visited Turf City – and so when I was finally there again about a week ago, I was completely taken by surprise! Turf City as I knew it had been renovated and renamed to The Grandstand, now home to plenty of F&B outlets like Maison Kayser, Pies and Coffee, Twelve Cupcakes, VeganBurg, the old-time Jack’s Place and easily at least 10 others. Definitely an exciting and up-and-coming place for food-lovers in Singapore.

We decided to settle for Omakase Burger, which translates to “Chef’s Choice” in English. After hearing some rave reviews about this place, I was more than keen to try them out myself!

They have a spacious and well-designed interior – adequately chic, comfortable and family-friendly – and I absolutely love it. I would think it’s big enough to easily fit around 80 people. In case you’re planning to pay them a visit, be sure to check out their menu as well. Admittedly not a very extensive variety, but quality beats quantity in this case because Omakase is really good in their specialization.

IMG_5029Omakase specializes in the classic American cheeseburgers, and they have a few varieties of it including the Bacon Cheeseburger (S$15.90), which was pretty damn fine in my opinion. This was made up of a firm but super juicy, hand-ground medium beef patty. Still pinkish in the centre and packed with a huge load of punch. Accompanied with perfectly melted American cheese, tomato, lettuce, their signature secret sauce and of course – crispy salty bacon for good measure. Hell yeah.

IMG_5043The Deluxe Cheeseburger (S$15.90) is basically the same thing but with a generous helping of caramelized onions and grilled mushrooms. I still think bacon is the perfect touch. 🙂

By the end of it, I had juice dripping down my fingers (THAT is how juicy this was)! You know what they say about burgers – they’re meant to be a messy affair!

IMG_5009The Cheese Fries (S$6.90, large) were a little lacklustre in my opinion, but the homemade cheese sauce was indeed rather addictive. Nothing amazing but good for sharing.

Homemade Lemonade (S$4.90)

For a self-service joint, I did find the prices to be a little steep – especially with portions just a tad small to be completely satisfying (which might leave some of you longing for just that little bit more). With that said though, compared to other dry, mediocre and disappointing burgers I’ve had, I’d definitely go for this any day.
