While Holland Village is well-known as home to a flourishing number of bars and eateries that are often loud and rowdy, MU Parlour – the latest addition to the area – has proven itself to be the clear opposite. With elegant furnishings, white-washed brick walls and its cosy decor, MU Parlour is sure to charm you the moment you enter.
Located on the second level above Thai Express, it is a whole different world as you climb the stairs and walk into MU Parlour. The clearly mismatched tables and chairs somehow manage to tie in fully with the café’s whimsical and eclectic concept, leaving you enchanted by an Alice-In-Wonderland likeness. To me, it is the perfect place for a fun casual date, to read a book or simply watch the world pass you by.
We headed there during tea time on a public holiday, and I was pleasantly surprised that the place wasn’t like most other new cafés around – fully-packed. Apart from light music playing in the background and occasional chatter from the other tables, the café is surely cosy and quiet enough for a comfortable afternoon of people-watching.
I fell head-over-heels in love with their pretty Lemon Meringue Tart($7)! The tanginess of the lemon curd was nicely balanced out by the meringue’s sweetness, and the tart crust was neither too hard nor too soft. Definitely my favourite out of all the ones I’ve tried so far! However, for fans of jaw-numbingly-sour lemon tarts, this one is probably not for you.
Besides freshly-baked pastries and coffees, MU Parlour also offers a variety of gourmet burgers and cocktails, making it ideal not only for high tea with girlfriends but also a romantic dinner date with that special someone!
With its charming interior design and cosy chic vibes, it is without doubt that MU Parlour is now on my list of favourite cafés around. I’m definitely going back to try out their other pastries and burgers, so do keep a lookout for me the next time you’re there!
